Andorra

The Principality of Andorra is a small country nestled in the mountains called Pyrenees between France and Spain. Andorra is very small, only 468 square kilometres. Andorra has a population of around 65,000 inhabitants.

For 715 years, from 1278 to 1993, Andorrans lived under a unique co-principality, ruled by French and Spanish leaders (from 1607 onward, the French chief of state and the Spanish bishop of Urgel). In 1993, this feudal system was modified with the titular heads of state retained, but the government transformed into a parliamentary democracy. Long isolated and impoverished, mountainous Andorra achieved considerable prosperity since World War II through its tourist industry. Many immigrants (legal and illegal) are attracted to the thriving economy with its lack of income taxes.

For you this is the country to Ski or hike the clean slopes of the Pyrenees or indulge in duty-free shopping.

The mountainous landscape of Andorra is characterised by steep rocksa, narrow valleys and green valley, varied by giant mount tops. The lowest point is not released under the 900 meters and the highest mountain, Pedrosa, 2946 meters are high and lie in the west on the border with Spain. With an average altitude of 1996 meters Andorra has been lain the highest country of Europe. The port d'Envalira is the highest pass in the Pyrenees and lies on 2408 meters. Andorra is divided in parts by two clear rivers: the Valira d'Orient or Gran Valira and the Valira del Nord or d'Ordino. The Gran Valira lies on an altitude of 840 meters and with that it is the lowest point of Andorra. The two rivers flow in the Segre, an affluent of the Ebro, the longest river of Spain. Beside rivers Andorra has also a number of small and large glacier lakes. The lakes are surrounded by the the Tristaina (2879 m) and the Fourcat (2862 m).

In the luxurious Caldea springs on 1000 meters altitude water of 68°C from the source.
